Thomas S. Monson

I finished the pencil portrait of President Monson last night. It is on a 9 x 12 piece of watercolor paper, but will be matted to an 8x10 image. I made it for a Young Women fundraiser auction and dinner that will be held tonight. The photographs did not turn out as well as I'd hoped. But I guess that's why I'm a fine artist and not a photographer. . .
This was a neat project to work on this week as we will be sustaining Thomas S. Monson as prophet this weekend at General Conference. Personally, I prefer this picture (and by *this* I mean the photo I drew the portrait from, not my drawing necessarily) of him to the "official" photograph. The official photograph is older and much more formal. I like this one because this is how I always picture him -- a little less hair and a lot more smile.

Wow! That picture looks really good! As an artist, you're always more critical of your own work, but I think you did a great job.

I love your picture you drew of Pres. Monson! I was searching for a drawing of him and your blog was the first on the list. I know you don't know me... but I was wondering if sometime I could use your picture for the front of our Ward Bulletin one Sunday. I am totally cool if you want to keep within people you know, I understand how some people can get a little crazy with someone else's work.
Anyhow, you did a great job, don't stop drawing!
